Halcyon Days is a song I wrote back in the 90s. The title is a common expression in literary English which traces back to the Greek legend of Alcyone. After a tragedy, Alcyone and her lover Ceyx are transformed into Halcyon birds (kingfisher) and grace the sea with a week of calm before and after the winter solstice (more on wiki).
I wrote the song because I liked the phrase and how it represents the best days of our lives, past, present and future, celebrating with friends and family. That's really the best thing in life to me. This faster version was developed when I was playing in a band called Adam's Orange with Brannon Justice and Graham Chandler.
lyrics
Summertime, drinking wine and feeling fine
Let's celebrate together
Sunny day we can play
and under the starts we'll lay
Gazing at the heavens
That's right
Let's come together
for Halcyon Days
We'll have a good time
In Halcyon Days
Losing time, walking the line
I saw a sign
Above the 7-11
Funny way you could say
The eyes are the only way
Guided by a vision
Allright,
Let's come together
For Halcyon Days
We'll have a good time
In Halcyon Days
I love the sands
Of distant lands can you understand
Euphoric feelings
We are braves crashing the waves
No more living like slaves
Treasuring our freedom
Come on,
Let's come together
For Halcyon Days
We'll have a good time
Yeah, let's come together
Oh, let's stay together
For Halcyon Days
We'll have a good time
