about

This is a fun song I produced with Carina, from the Latin orchestra, Eta Carina. It is a Brazilian-style pop tune influenced by Marisa Monte. I was studying some African guitar styles also (check out Diblo Dibala) and made the lead guitar part like that, a fast-moving melodic structure. In the solo, I was going for a Django Reinhardt approach, he's my hero. I threw in some chordscale 4-note jazz voicings in the second half of the solo, it was a challenge.

The song is about those times you will do anything to get to see your loved one. And if you are a complete wreck when you finally get there, so be it. This track also appears on the record, El Contrato from Eta Carina (www.etacarina.net).

lyrics

It's six o'clock
Time for a date
I'm running late
Wouldn't you know
My car broke down
Just wouldn't start
We're far apart

Buses, taxis and the trains
Are all on strike today
Looks like its going to rain
But there's no other way
Why I must I can't explain
All I can really say is
One way or the other I will make it back to you

I lost my shoe
Down in the park
Now its too dark
To find it
So I'm barefoot
Walking the ground
All the way downtown

Buses, taxis and the trains
Are all on strike today
Looks like its going to rain
But there's no other way
Why I must I can't explain
All I can really say is
One way or the other I will make it back to you

Soon I'll be there to meet you
Barefoot and ordinary
Not the way I want to meet you
Not too extraordinary
Hope you're not too disappointed
Today just hasn't been my day
Can't wait to see your smile
And all the pain will wash away
